Female Innovators and Entrepreneurs in Technology

FLIGHT: The Group for Female Leadership, Innovation, and Growth in Healthcare & Technology.

Created by a group of women at UPMC Enterprises, FLIGHT is a health care and technology focused forum for women, intended to create mentorship and networking opportunities, as well as highlight successful female leaders both inside and outside of UPMC. FLIGHT hopes to create opportunities for professional development and mentorship, cultivate the growth of talented women, and increase engagement of women within the organization.

FLIGHT’s next panel event will be held on December 4, 2018. Registration begins at 4:00 p.m. with the panel beginning promptly at 4:30 at UPMC Enterprises, located at 6425 Penn Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15206. This panel, moderated by Rasu Shrestha, MD MBA, Chief Innovation Officer of UPMC and Executive Vice President of UPMC Enterprises, will focus on female innovators and entrepreneurs working in technology, including:

  • Lenore Blum, PhD: Distinguished Career Professor of Computer Science, Chair in Technology Entrepreneurship, School of Computer Science; Founding Director of Project Olympus and Faculty Director, Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship; Carnegie Mellon University
  • Ilana Diamond, MBA: Managing Director of AlphaLab Gear & Riverfront Ventures, Innovation Works Accelerator
  • Audrey Russo, MPA: President & CEO of the Pittsburgh Technology Council

The panelists will share stories about their journeys to leadership from a female perspective, including the unique challenges they have faced working in male-dominated industries. Following the panel discussion and Q&A, there will be a networking reception with light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.

Parking is available in the Bakery Square garage, with the first three hours free. Please note that parking in the Bakery Square surface lot is only one-hour parking. When entering the building, please use the entrance next door to Social.

We will be taking photographs and recording the event, and using certain of these images on UPMC websites, social media accounts, and e-newsletters. If you would prefer not to be photographed, recorded, or have your image appear on these outlets, please let the photographer or any of the event coordinators know when you arrive.
