In response to social distancing, Hope Grows has been working as hard as ever to transition all programs and services to virtual options. While doing so, it occurred to us  that family caregivers might be feeling even more isolated and disconnected than usual.

To let family caregivers know they are not alone, Hope Grows is initiating Project Stitch, a volunteer run program where threads and people are joined together by the reciprocal relationship between the making and receiving of a hand sewn item. Each gift kit includes a simple neck wrap for the caregiver, a heart shaped hand warmer for their care receiver, and two face masks.

Here’s where you come in. Hope Grows needs volunteers to give of their time and talents to: 1) Cut fleece and cotton fabric, and/or 2) Sew the individual pieces, including neck wrap, hand warmer, and (2) face masks.

Hope Grows adheres to high standards of safe distribution for both  volunteers and individuals receiving the Project Stitch kits. Fabrics have been thoroughly cleaned before and after assembly. Our washing agents and practices are designed to kill viruses such as the common cold and flu. Based on current guidance, we have no reason to believe that our processes are ineffective against COVID-19. According to the CDC, flu viruses are killed by heat above 167°. Every item is then enclosed in plastic for protection and cleanliness.
